How effective is it to advertise my property online?
Research shows that more and more people are using the Internet to buy and sell a home. As a seller, you benefit from the fact that thousands of qualified buyers search Homescape every month.
How does the process work, and how long does it take to create an ad?
Creating an ad is a straightforward process. How long it takes depends on how much information you choose to input. To expedite the process, use high-speed Internet access and have all your home’s details and photos ready.
Your ad will appear on a Homescape search-results page whenever your property meets a user’s search criteria.
Once it has been approved, your ad will be posted on Homescape. This typically occurs the same day you purchase your ad, provided you do so prior to 4 p.m. CT, Monday through Friday (ads are not reviewed on weekends or holidays). Once approved, your ad will go live and a confirmation e-mail will be sent to you.
After you receive confirmation that your ad has been approved, the easiest way to find it is to use the home-search function on this site to search by location, property type, price, and more. Potential buyers can find your property as long it meets their search criteria.
What if my ad expires and I want to re-post my property?
If your ad expires and you want to post your home back up on Homescape, you don’t have to recreate your ad. Simply sign into your account and click on Order or Review Ads link to place the ad again.
How does Homescape help secure online transactions?
We use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption to protect your credit card information.
What if something goes wrong or I have a problem?
If you have a problem creating your ad, contact our support staff at support@homescape.com
How much info can I enter into my property description?
Give buyers a good impression of your home, by entering as much information as you want in the provided spaces. There are no additional charges for the number of characters you enter. If you choose to skip sections, no blanks will appear in your ad, and you can return later to add or edit information.
People interested in you property will use the contact information that you specify in your ad. You are required to provide a contact or “lead e-mail,” which will not be directly displayed to the user. You may also give an optional phone number, which will appear on the site.
What kind of photos should I post?
We recommend that you submit a frontal-view photo of your home. This will serve as your ad’s primary photo, which displays to viewers on search results and the listing’s detail page. Homescape accepts .jpg and .gif image formats with a recommended file size of less than 500K. Larger files are accepted, but they will take longer to upload. Please note that only images of your property will be approved for posting.
What if I don’t have photos to upload?
You can start building your ad now, save it, and then add photos before you purchase the ad.
Can I include open houses in my ad?
Yes. You have the option to enter open house dates and details when creating your ad. Once an open house date has passed, it is automatically removed from your ad.
Can I include a Virtual Tour with my ad?
Yes. If you have already created a virtual tour that exists on another Web site, all you have to do is enter the Web address (URL) and it will display with the ad you create on Homescape.
Are changes or updates to my ad free?
Yes. Use your e-mail and password to sign on to your account, where you will be able to edit the information in your ad.
Does Homescape.com collect any down payments, etc.?
Homescape.com does NOT collect payments or down payments, nor does Homescape participate in or guarantee any transaction. All transactions are between you and the property owner. Any e-mail or individual stating otherwise is attempting to scam you.
Homescape is NEVER involved in payment between the seller and buyer.
What if I receive a fraudulent e-mail, should I open it?
The best thing to do if you receive one of these e-mails is to delete it and not reply to the sender.
I received an e-mail stating that I have unread inquiries, what should I do?
This is a "phishing" attempt to gain access to your account. If you receive such an e-mail, delete it. If you've already clicked on the links and logged into your account, e-mail support@homescape.com.
What are some items to watch for in recognizing scams?
• The contact may be unavailable to speak on the phone and is in another country.
• The contact is unable to meet face-to-face before completing the transaction, but will request some sort of payment.
• The contact asks for Western Union, MoneyGram, money order, escrow service or another form of payment.
• Typically, the properties are advertised at significantly below-market values in order to garner interest. Remember, if the deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is!
Does Homescape.com or Classified Ventures send checks?
Homescape.com is ONLY a classified ad-listing service and is NEVER involved in payment between the seller and buyer. Please don't accept any fraudulent checks from Classified Ventures (Homescape.com's parent company).
What are some FTC tips to avoid scams?
The Federal Trade Commission offers the following tips to avoid scams:
• Confirm the buyer's name, street address and telephone number.
• Don't accept a check for more than the selling amount.
• Consider alternative methods of payment such as an escrow or online payment service.
• If you accept a check, insist on one drawn on a local bank or a bank with a local branch.
• If the buyer insists that you wire back funds, end the transaction immediately.
• If a buyer attempts to pay with a winning check from a foreign lottery, end the transaction immediately.
• Resist pressure from the buyer to act immediately. An offer good today should be good after the check clears.
Other tips on how to protect yourself from scams:
• If a deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is -- trust your instinct.
• If your communication with a buyer or seller makes you suspicious, cease all communication with that individual.
• Report any activity that makes you suspicious to support@homescape.com.
• NEVER, EVER wire money to a buyer or seller.
• NEVER, EVER accept a check for more than the value of a property.
