Toni Nelson is the director of strategic initiatives for Prudential Gary Greene Realtors and is the former 2005 chair of the Houston Association of Realtors (HAR).
Nelson received a B.B.A. in marketing from the University of Houston and became a practicing Realtor in 1982, during Houston’s worst economic downturn. Despite the economy, she was a million-dollar producer her first year in real estate and became the manager of her office within two years of receiving her license in 1984. Nelson remained a manager in Fort Bend County for large multimarket brokerages and in 1999 was named general manager of the Houston division of Henry S. Miller, Realtors, a Texas wide firm.
Nelson became division manager in 2001, when the Houston division of Henry S. Miller Realtors was acquired by Coldwell Banker United, Realtors. In 2006, after serving as chair of HAR, Toni returned to Prudential Gary Greene Realtors, the company where she had begun her real estate career.
Holding five professional real estate designations, Nelson has been extremely active in the real estate industry and community. In 1987, she was named Realtor of the Year for the now merged Fort Bend Association of Realtors and also served as the organization’s president in 1988. She also she received the 2000 Realtor of the Year award from HAR.
In 2002, Nelson became chair of the MLS Committee. Under her leadership, the committee dissolved a 20-year-old MLS legacy system and transferred the entire membership roster to a Web-based information system in October 2002.
While she was chair of HAR, a Realtor public-image television campaign was initiated, standards in online photo presentation were raised, the first consumer survey of local Houston buyer and sellers was performed, a quality service program was initiated and special classes were developed to increase members’ Internet proficiency.
Toni is a tireless industry and community advocate and currently serves the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce as vice chair of the Public Affairs Division, seeking to improve community relations with local elected public officials. A firm believer in the American Dream of homeownership, Nelson loves her industry and enjoys supporting those that practice within it.
